Founded in 2012, the Economic Rights Institute supports alliances to actualize development that respects the rights of all. We design methods & tools to strengthen multi-tiered discussions: between employees & management, NGOs & the business community, buyers & suppliers. We put the insights & momentum of these discussions in the pursuit of solutions to foster the conditions for better work.

Newest report

The COVID flex which went unnoticed

The Economic Rights Institute previously outlined how we might identify Chinese suppliers where the risk of workers’ rights issues is higher. We used this methodology to identify the uncommonly poor conditions of Q Tech Microelectronics [丘鈦微電子], a supplier to Fairphone and Google. In this piece, we document how Q Tech is tied to what looks like Chinese policies to relieve the recruitment difficulties of preferred enterprises by pressuring poor, ethnic minorities to work for employers with no intention to respect workers’ rights.
