The self-interested “innocence” of documents
In this piece, the Economic Rights Institute considers the design of Prada’s code of conduct monitoring, focusing on their review of written records and onsite inspections. Others jumped to conclude Prada were cutting & running from suppliers just on the news Prada shed 222 suppliers in light of workers’ rights monitoring. We think the number of suppliers Prada left shows the workings of a deeper system. And without more knowledge of how this system functions, telling Prada to simply to stick it out to support supplier improvements feels too blindly optimistic.
