In our previous piece, the Economic Rights Institute identified the intersection of seemingly opposing forces: Fairphone is possibly the symbol of Western efforts to mobilize consumer support for responsibly sourced electronics. And yet, some of their suppliers mostly service Chinese firms, some of whom tout close ties to the Chinese government, a government opposed to, if not overtly hostile to, the Western vision of workers’ rights.
